Trauma and the Brain-Mind-Body Connection: A Psychological Approach to Assessment and Treatment
The Program:
Integrates current literature and research in neuroscience, psychobiology and attachment, and explores somatic approaches to trauma treatment to address dysregulation in the nervous system (NS) caused by trauma;
Will help mental health, crisis intervention and social workers, etc. to recognize how crisis can result in changes in the brain and NS that negatively affect emotional and physical health and interpersonal relationships;
Will include theoretical presentations, clinical examples, videotape, demonstrations and opportunities for participants to practice new strategies.
The Program:
Learn about the incredible brain and how threat and trauma affect the brain and nervous system (NS);
Learn about the physiological, emotional, and relational implications of traumatic experiences for individuals, couples and families;
Explore a multi-dimensional view of trauma including life crisis, shock and developmental (attachment) traumas;
Learn about the impact on mental health (PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders, substance abuse, complex trauma) and on physical health (insomnia, GI tract problems, TMJ, pain, chronic fatigue, etc.);
Explore principles of somatic therapies including Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT), Somatic Experiencing (SE) to invite greater regulation and balance in the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS);
Learn and practice strategies for working with trauma in the NS including tracking sensation, intentional resourcing, titration;
