Community Corrections and
Criminal Justice Work in Canada

The CTI Canadian Training Institute, Institut Canadien Formation Inc., with the financial sponsorship of Correctional Service Canada, has released a new publication intended to orient members of Boards of Directors, staff, volunteers, the judiciary, the media and the community on the emergent issues within community corrections and criminal justice work in Canada.

This comprehensive orientation primer authored by Bruce Kappel with editorial assistance by Donald G. Evans and John Sawdon was written under the guidance of an Advisory Committee comprised of Community Correctional professionals from across Canada.

There are six different clusters of issues that run through this primer:

  • philosophical issues about the most appropriate model of justice;
  • systems issues in terms of how justice is administered in Canada for adults;
  • governance issues in terms of the responsibilities of Board's of Directors for community agencies;
  • program issues in terms of the most effective strategies for working with people in conflict with the law;
  • environmental issues in terms of community agencies keeping in touch with changes in the criminal justice environment;
  • change issues, the changes and challenges facing agencies both in the present and future.
