Frequently Asked Questions
- Can CTI come to our office to deliver workshops?
Over 90% of CTI’s training is delivered on an in-service basis. We will come to
you or alternatively you may use our training room for a fee.

- Do you deliver workshops outside of Toronto?
CTI’s training is delivered on an in-service basis across Canada from Vancouver
to St. John’s, in remote First Nations communities, and large urban centres.

- Do you deliver workshops in French?
We have French facilitators on staff and we deliver a variety of workshops in
French including Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing and Community
Worker Safety Strategies and Defusing Anger Resistance and Hostility.

- How soon after calling can I schedule a workshop?
It depends on the availability of a facilitator for the date range which you provide;
however, given the size of our staff chances are good that we will be able
accommodate your request within a time frame that is pleasing to you.

- Is the course list on your Website comprehensive?
No – these are our most requested courses; however, CTI is well known for our
capacity to co-create workshops to meet the needs of the organizations we serve.
Our capacity extends to organizational development, evaluation of programs and
services, along with consultation for reengineering efforts. If what you see on the
website does not meet your needs, please call us at 416-778-7056 or email at
programs@cantraining.org.

- Can CTI design a course to suit our needs if the courses you offer don’t
capture what we need?
We offer cost-effective customized training to meet your specific goals,
workplace culture and values.

- Do you offer Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (PMAB) and Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) training?
We have trained the CEO (Joe Highland) of UMAB in de-escalation skills and
(due to patent issues) have offered him a “limited” ability to utilize them in his
training. Our physical self protection skills are different and in our eyes create
better overall safety for both staff and participants.

In terms of PMAB, CTI has trained a number of hospitals including the Centre for
Addictions and Mental Health who call their programs PMAB. Our verbal deescalation,
self protection and team controls are completely different from PMAB.

- What is the maximum number of participants permitted in your workshops?
This all depends on factors such as the type and length of the workshop. Please
check with the Administrative Scheduling and Training Workshop Coordinator at
416-778-7056 or email at programs@cantraining.org for the response as it
pertains to your training needs.

- Does my agency have to purchase the workshop manuals?
The workbooks are used in the workshops to introduce, reinforce and provide
visual representation of theory. They also encourage participation and
development through self-learning/awareness in the form of questionnaires and
quizzes. After the workshop, participants can use them as reference materials to
continue the learning journey through tips, awareness inventories, safety
checklists, journal notes and other tools.

- How does your payment schedule work?
Once all the details of the training have been discussed, a contract is drawn up and
mailed with an invoice requesting a 50% deposit of the training fee. The
remaining 50% is generally charged at the completion of the workshop, along
with the manuals and any additional applicable expenses. We require payment
immediately upon receiving the invoice.

- May we pay for the full workshop (training, manuals etc.) up front?
Yes this occurs for many reasons with organizations and we gladly accept fees up
front and schedule into the future at your convenience. Please do not hesitate to
contact our Administrative Scheduling and Training Workshop Coordinator at
416-778-7056 or email at programs@cantraining.org. Please bear in mind that we
will expect to be reimbursed for any additional unaccounted expenses, which
arise. (Please see question 12).

- What are some of the extra workshop fees in addition to the training and manual fees?
If applicable, additional fees are charged for meals, accommodation, parking,
incidentals, travel (mileage, car rental, cab fare, airfare, etc), refreshments/snacks
(at agency’s request, if training at CTI office).

- How often do you have general course offerings for the general public?
Ideally we like to offer courses to the general public on a seasonal basis but the
frequency depends in part on the number of people who express an interest by
calling our office and leaving their contact information.

If you feel there is a need for us to come to your community and deliver a
workshop – please contact our Administrative Scheduling and Training Workshop
Coordinator at 416-778-7056 or email at programs@cantraining.org.

- Do I need a prerequisite for the Training of the Trainer (TOT) program?
To be eligible to participate in the Training of the Trainer program, you must have
successfully completed the Three-Day Accredited Crisis Intervention within the
past two years.

- How long is my Training of the Trainer accreditation status valid?
The Training of the Trainer accreditation status is valid for two years. Those
facilitating the one and two-day Defusing course must take a half-day refresher
every two years. Facilitators of the three-day Accredited Crisis Intervention
program must take a one-day Refresher course every two years to continue.

- How long is my accreditation status valid after taking the Accredited Crisis Intervention with the Hostile/Aggressive Individual?
The three-day Crisis Intervention accreditation status is valid for two years. A
half-day Refresher course must be taken every two years for your accreditation to
remain current.

- How do I determine if I need the half-day or one-day Refresher course?
(Please see questions #15 and #16).

- Could we schedule a three day session and have some people attend just one day or two days depending on the length of training they require?
One-day, two-day and three-day workshops must be scheduled separately. The
three day workshop curriculum does not match the content needed for successful
completion of the one or two day. The reason for this is the pacing of the
workshops.

- Do all participants get a certificate?
Everyone who is present successfully completes a workshop will receive a
certificate of participation.

- I registered for a three-day course but was sick one day and didn’t receive a certificate. Is it possible for me to get a two-day certificate?
No this is rarely done - the three day workshop curriculum does not match the
content needed for successful completion of the one or two day. The reason for
this is the pacing of the workshops.

In some circumstances due to unforeseen circumstances we have made
exceptions. Please discuss this CTI if the problem arises. | |
